I’m a Bad Bride: Wedding Thank-You Etiquitte
So here is my story…we we’re married back in October 2009. It was my goal to send out thank-yous right away. They were going to include a DVD of the wedding inside. Well, October went by, November went by, December…now it is February and I still have not sent them. Why? Well, I just found out that my wedding DVD will not be ready until the Spring!
I know I could have sent the plain thank-you sooner, but I kept delaying it all in the hope the DVD would soon come and could help justify the lapse of time. But now that there is no DVD I just look like I have bad manners. In effect this has made me a terrible bride. Why?
Well Emily Post says you should send out your wedding Thank You’s within 3 months of marriage!
I am officially in the fourth month and am now sending them out without the DVD. So it will look like I was lazy rather than trying to give my guest an extra lil’ token of appreciation.
I am in Wedding thank you purgatory now

I sent out an email to let guest know what was going on, but some who are older may not really use email and won’t get it. And as all brides know they are the ones who care most about formalities. Some have even questioned my in-laws and in turn they look bad. Its a vicious cycle of bad bridal etiquette.
So my question is
Do you think I am a bad bride for this? and When did you send yours out or receive them from a bride?

Emily Post’s Tips on Sending out Thank Yous
When should notes be written?
Contrary to popular myth, the happy couple does not have a year’s grace period. All thank you notes should be written within three months of the receipt of the gift. Ideally, a response should be written on the day you receive a wedding gift. If that’s not possible, set a daily goal. It’s a lot easier to write three or four notes a day than to have to write a hundred notes in a month after the wedding!

I got married in October too! the 11th. What date was your wedding? No you aren’t a bad bride. Most ppl understand.
Wow! First let me say that I am impressed that you were going to give a copy of your wedding DVD to each guest. We ordered 3 copies, one for us and one for each set of parents.
We got married in September 2009 and I had sent all of my thank you notes by the end of October. And my mother-in-law starting asking us about them as soon as we returned from our honeymoon.
Love the blog, keep posting!
hehe @mother-in-law thing…yeah some people are very into wedding etiquette. Now i am going to post the film on the web…will make life much easier.
Maybe you can do the cards now (pace yourself & set up times to do it) & include in the thank you card that dvds will come at a later time.
No you’re not a bad bride. Overall, people are understanding.
I sent mine right away because I knew I would be too busy getting my house together & just merging as a couple. Plus, my mom & new mom might get on my case & I didn’t want to hear it. lol
TY!!!!! You’re commenting! Yeah I just finished putting them together. Yeah Chris actually got on my case recently and I’m thinking Um didn’t we both receive the gifts???
