Dieting Before Preggers?
-The Good-
-The Bad-
-The Ugly-
(he-he!)
Ok…as I have mentioned before I have gained a bit more cushion since our wedding. Chris loves it! I on the other hand am sick of my jeans not fitting (technically I have moved into an all dress phase of life…more to come on that). Well anyway, I have really wanted to get a little leaner, but there is a dilemma.
I want to be pregnant too and that doesn’t sit well with a diet.
I am at a true fork in the road. I would love to get back to my more svelte self, but I desire pregnancy fat more.
I want to be pregnant and fluffy.
So how in the world can I start a diet and hardcore exercise regiment all while knowing that I will be pregnant soon. I wish I had the ability to go full out with my workouts and dietingĀ until my BFP (big fat positive), but I don’t work like that. Either I’m all in or all out on one thing. When I diet I reallllllly diet. I mean I will jump start with a fast and everything. I usually shed a ton in that first week and then maintain it with a restricted diet. Otherwise if I have to wait a few weeks or months to see true change I will give up. I am impulsive and as much as my husband and others have tried to calm it down…sorry that’s me!
I am entering a phase of life where breast pumps and different brands of cloth diapers are the things thatĀ swarm in my head. Not being rock hard and sexy.
Been there and seriously done that. It is way overrated. However, at the same time I feel like my weight gain is unjustified since it was not onset from pregnancy, but rather lack of discipline. While I am sure I can cut back here and there, I still feel like any dieting is not truly going to make a huge difference. And for the record it’s not that I eat super unhealthy now. I never eat fast food and cook all my meals. I also rarely eat super fatty foods or tons of carbs. But compared to how I used to eat pre-marraige I do eat a bit more now.
The ugly truth about where I am is that I want to be healthy for my next phase of life: body, mind and spirit. I am working on balancing it all. Hopefully time, wisdom, and the Lord will help me figure it all out.
What do you think about pre-pregnancy dieting?

I worked on my fitness pre-pregnancy and leaned just before conception. I ate a more alkaline diet to work towards balancing my pH and I made sure to drink whole milk so my endocrine system was not disrupted since hormones bind to fats and that imbalance can happen when drinking lower fat products. Read what to eat before, during, and after pregancy by Judith Brown for nutrition advice.
I will have to check out Judith Brown…wow! good to know about low fat products. I would have never known that…thanks!
I am in the same boat! But I decided to go for it in a healthy way, working out hard and trying to stick to a healthy diet. God willing, I will be able to keep working out even while pregnant. I saw a woman with a cute baby bump and maternity workout clothes in my bootcamp class going strong.
Wow! The woman in your bootcamp must be amazing. Yeah, I decided to be super healthy with my eating. It’s good for me and any bean sprouts that I may be on the way…oh and way to go with the bootcamp. I did one once and it was torture
Oh yeah, I am on the fitness side because I want to be lean before my P. (preggo). I have been on the good healthy life since after Christmas and I would like to be super fit before my BFP.
Good for you for staying on a healthy plan…I have seen some really fit women even in the last trimester. so maybe if I join you we will both be
Well, in my 1st trimester of my 1st pregnancy, I lost 10 lbs due to extreme morning sickness, so just from my experience I would say try to stay fit but don’t focus on getting the weight down necessarily.
Just eat well – lots of good fats, like butter and coconut oil, and minimize the things that aren’t good for you, pregnant or not, like corn syrup and processed foods.
You are the second person I have her of who lost weight because of morning sickness. These are good tips. I am pretty healthy now…I just need to cut back portions and save desert for only the weekend.
