Top Picks For A New City Mom: Best Strollers
I love researching things so baby gear is no exception. While I don’t have a little one in my arms yet; that has not stopped me from doing my homework. So in my findings I thought I’d share some really great options for urban mothers (to-be). I will also post more findings such as cribs and diaper bags in the coming days.
Very few strollers meet the demand of an urban mother, but I have worked hard and long and have found two that I think will impress you. Here are my criteria for a city mom’s stroller and how I made my choices:
- Light-weight
- One hand steering
- Compact
- Easy to fold
- Convertible
- Shock absorbent
- Has the “Stop and Stare” Factor
- Accessories Galore
iCandy Peach $599 – $899+

This yummy UK stroller may bare Georgia’s state fruit, but it was built for the Big Apple. It meets all the city mom’s standards and then some. This stroller was built to grow with your family as it can be converted from a one to two-seater. It also is the coolest looking stroller I have ever seen. It comes in an array of bright colors for the the bassinets and seat; while the stroller itself is donned in silver and black. It also has some very cool accessories like a parasol and a diaper bag to match the color of your unit. This stroller is so new that it has yet to make its way across the pond into the US…that is unless you live in NYC or LA. Yes, the stroller is only available to purchase in store and the only stores that currently have it are a few urban boutiques. While I am sure it will become more widely available by the end of the year or possibly 2011, if you are one of the lucky few who live in a city where you can test drive it and afford it, then this one is for you. Click here is a list of all the features.

Baby Jogger City Select $499+
Like the iCandy, this stroller was made to grow with your family, but at a lower price point. It does practically everything the iCandy and beyond; the fold and storage unit. Baby Jogger City strollers are well known for their one hand pull and fold (it’s actually patented). It is the most ideal stroller for a city mom for this reason. The storage unit is also humongous and is accessible from any side of the stroller. While It is not as pretty as the iCandy, it gets the job done and definitely has the cool and convenience factor. It also is more widely available across the States and can be ordered online, which is great if you live in a more rural area. While the price point is definitely cheaper (even after accessories) it still may be a little pricey for some moms. So just in case, I thought I’d mention the Baby Jogger Mini which is a great city option as well, just without the bells and whistles. I have seen it priced as low as $195 online so it is definitely affordable. I test drove both of these and was thoroughly impressed by each. Here is a list of all the City Selects features.

Thanks for this post girl!! I found out last week that I am preggers with my 2nd and my hubby and I are so excited! We have been trying for over a year now and of course Gods timing couldn’t be any better! I will be on the search for the best baby gear soon, especially since my son is 4 1/2 and I pretty much gave most of his baby stuff away!
Congrats in the baby! I know you are going to have fun shopping!
Stroller searching takes so much energy. You search and search and search and then you say ‘this is it!’So you print a pic of it. You go test drive it at the store, all the while thinking that you’re still in love. Then your in the park for lunch and something else rolls by and it’s ‘ooooh what’s that??!!??’ You’re undecided again.
I spent a ton of time stroller shopping and finally settled on a Mutsy, Which i still love but, i luv a lot of others too.
Now a year later my son will be starting daycare and they only accept ‘umbrella’ strollers (the ones that fold compact like a maclaren) in the daily storage closet. Talk about aggravation!!! lol. My husband says its just a stroller but we all know as a mom and woman in general nothing is JUST anything.
Happy Shopping!
Yeah I have heard of that…especially in the city. I actually plan to use a wrap for the first six months..I’m a fan of attachment parenting.
