It’s Been A long Time…

I shouldn’t have left you…without a new blog to step to.

OK, I had to do it. It’s true I am back and with a vengeance…sorta.

You see I still have a ton of coding and art work to put on the site, but am keeping it in the back burner because my plate is so full these days. I am working on finalizing several projects right now:

  • - my Book
  • - my Husband’s new site
  • - a movie script
  • - and I just got a whole slew of camera equipment so that I can slowly but surely turn this blog into a vlog (blog+video).
  • Yep, my cup runneth over. But enough about that…let’s gab on wife stuff.

I am in Dr. purgatory in NYC. Seriously if you have tried to find a OB/ GYN in this city you are in for a journey. Mine began a few weeks ago as I came across a 2008 issue of NY Mag in out laundry room. The cover featured “The Top Doctors in NYC”.

Great! I need to get a new gyno.”

I know that for most women the thought of a visit to the doctor, particularly a OB/ GYN, is not a trip to Disneyland. For me however, I am in desperate need of a check-up. Plus I want to get PREGGERS this year. So I needed a new DR. Between switching medical insurance and my old doctor being in DC; I knew that this was the time to get it together.

Boy oh boy..how naive I was. After snatching the mag, I headed back upstairs, poured a cup of coffee and prepared to dissect and research all the recommended physicians. I am a natural researcher so I knew I could get it done within the hour. Ha! As I began my search I knew right always that I was in trouble. There isn’t one single source online that give you accurate and honest reviews. Sure a site like Rate MD is great, but once you begin checking out who accepts your insurance and cross-check the reviews on other sites like Mampedia and Urbanbaby, you will be left feeling hopeless. If you can actually find a good doctor who accepts your insurance, pray that you can get an appointment in the next four months. Besides that some OB’s don’t do labor & deliver! So if I happened to get preggers I would have to do my search all over again.

These NY docs are for the birds!

The OB/ GYN scene among women (especially mothers) is seriously a private club. People refuse to give you the name of who they use because they don’t want word to spread lest the doctor accepts you. Thus increasing her patient list and causing them longer waits and slower service. Even the receptionist on the phone make you feel like you are begging for membership to a private garden club.

Um…hi. I would like to schedule and appointment for an exam.
We have a five month waiting list.
    Really?
    Yes.
OK. Can I make an appointment and check back to see if something opens up earlier.
There is a two month waiting list to take a fill date.
    Wow!
OK. So I guess I will take the appointment and put my name on the list.
What is your reason for the appointment?
    To get an exam.
    Are you pregnant?
No, but I am hoping to be soon.
Only Dr. *%$# does OB and he is not accepting new patients.
So If I get pregnant I have to switch doctors?
Yes, but we will refer you if he is still booked during that time.
Ok, let me take the appointment and I will think about things.
    Do you have insurance?
    Yes. I have *%$#.
    What network?
    *%$#.
    We don’t take that network….sorry.
    Oh…Ok.
    Have a nice day.

Yes…ladies that was a conversation with an actual receptionist today! I wish I was joking.

Finding a new doctor is really important to me especially since I am a new wife and since we didn’t …you know…before we we’re married. I am literally reinventing my…”feminine care routine”. While I have always taken care of myself, it is now VERY, VERY different.

Hey! We’re all big girls in here.

Besides that I am sooooooooooo ready for the next phase. Especially after Jessica Ralph went into labor yesterday. I love that blog and reading her journey has made me love being a wife and someday a mother even more. So as silly as it sounds I am really praying for help on this one. I need God to give me direction and open the right door. It is too exhausting to keep jumping through loops. There are alot of things in life I am willing to fight for…but a gynecological exam is not one of them…In the words of carries Underwood:

    Jesus take the wheeeellll!

So if you have any recommendations I will gladly accept them. Maybe I will name my first born after you. LOL :)

      Hi Melanie!

The new site already looks fantastic! And you were surely missed…

Anyway yea the gyn scene in NYC is a mess (you know what now that i think about it the whole Doctor scene in this city is a mess but i’ll save that for another time). I went through the same things while searching for one who delivered @ Methodist Hospital in Park Slope Brooklyn. I called and called and got told the obscene wait times of 2-6 months especially if you wanted a women. Be patient, you’ll find someone. I know you want someone who’s actually on Manhattan so I’ll keep my ears open.

      Keep up the blogging!
