I Am So Thankful

This morning was a hard one. Two things happened that could have really been devastating for me. One is personal, but the other involved my mother and Barrack. While driving home from the dog park, my mother’s car veered off the road and flipped three times. Needless to say I was in shock. After talking to her and figuring out what happened, I was thankful to know that both she and the dog were okay. In fact Barrack was eating his breakfast when I called back. My father came home and is now taking her to get checked out at the hospital. I know that she is absolutely fine because of the Lord’s protection on her life, but it was very overwhelming.
The impact of what had happened didn’t hit me until later. I began to play back what she told me and all I could remember was,
Come here so I can hold you Barrack…the car is going to roll over.
She held on to him for dear life. Even as I type it now I feel my tears coming up. When you really think about it,
That could have been my child she was protecting.
It demonstrated what a great mother I have. Even in the midst of her car flipping over an embankment, she held on to him to keep him safe and kept him calm. This is so fitting for her to have comic relief in the midst of trouble and tragedy. She has been that way my whole life. She ended up having to climb out of the back window, but Barrack wouldn’t get out. So when the police came they told him,
It’s OK Barrack…you can come out now.
He quietly obeyed the police and ended up playing ball with them as the car was towed away. She was thankful he finally did because they didn’t know if the car would blow up since it was totaled and laying on it’s side.
She is an AMAZING woman and has an incredible gift for comforting others. I really love her and I know God will keep her around for even my children’s children. So in this post, I just want to show my gratitude for my incredible mother and her little brown dog. They are the two craziest and energetic persons in my life, but also the most loving. My Dad also is an amazing father and husband and I am so grateful that he is always there to catch my mother when she falls.
So…to keep myself from crying anymore I thought I would post a few funny pics of them to get me through the rest of the day. Hopefully they will forgive me for the not so flattering pics…but they are cute. I encourage you to thank God for your mother today and everyday, good or bad, you only have one.

Praise God for his protection!!!
This is so touching and it is a wake up call to appreciate the people God blesses with. Thanks so much Mel for sharing this.
I’ve been in this mode the past month about appreciating my mom and truly accepting her for who she is. I believe planning for my own children helps me to appreciate all she’s done for me. There were rocky moments in our relationship, but in the end she was always there. For this I’m grateful.
You are right…thinking about children and planning for a family definitely as opened my eyes as well.
I am so happy to hear that everyone is all right. I have grown to greatly appreciate my mother over the past couple of years. It was actually my grandmother’s illness that bought us closer together. At times I am truly amazed at the enormity of her love and her capcity to give so completely of herself. Yes mothers are truly one of God’s greatest blessings.
They truly are a blessing and what amazes me even more is that we as children don’t often appreciate the magnitude of it until we are older or parents ourselves.
WOW! I am so haapy that your family is okay. GOD is sooooo good!
